Well, mostly. After getting sick of staying in my hotel room in Sydney and being unsure about when I would be allowed to drive I ended up getting a rental car and driving back from Sydney on Friday.

So after two nights at Mum and Dad’s I went to the doctor to check if i was still contagious. The great news is I’m not anymore. I must say that I am still very ugly to look at, but many people would say I always was :)

At least now I don’t have to stay away from people.

So my advice to everyone is…

a) Don’t get chicken pox

b) If you haven’t been vaccinated, get it.

Here ends my advice!

If you don’t care about sport please don’t bother reading this post.

The annual day of nothing but motor racing happened again today (despite having to show the Suzuki to a few potential buyers that meant I missed the first couple of hours).

To say it was eventful is probably the understatement of the year. With the tribute to Brocky (who died last month in a Targa rally), the huge accident in the support series from friday (which claimed the life of development series driver Mark Porter) and then 11 safety car incidents during the race there was lucky to be 17 cars finish at the end.

While there was many great overtaking moves and plenty of close racing it is so easily overshadowed by the heavy collisions that make you sit there hoping that the driver is able to get out of the car and walk away. When they have to cut the roof out of a car to free Paul Radisich, who was then taken by Care Flight to hospital in a serious but stable condition you have to hold your breath.

The highlight of the day was that Lowndes was able to win. As probably the driver that was most upset by the loss of Brock it was great to see him on the podium accepting the King of the Mountain trophy.

The highlight for all the girls was that Grant Denyer not only finished the race but was competitive throughout the race.

It gets said every year that Bathurst is a different race to any other and it was proven again today with many of the competitive teams failing by the wayside. Judging by the winners this year the only safe comment about Bathurst is that to win the race you must have a straight car.

Owen’s having a ball finding all sorts of new things to look at and places to explore.

Our internet is not hooked up yet (Telstra being painfully slow) but we hope to be online again next week… fingers crossed. Withdrawal from the www is very painful, not to mention inconvenient! Who knew people still kept the Yellow Pages and didn’t just look everything up online?!

Last night the Boy slept through til now – 5:30am! It’s dark outside and the birds are just starting to wake, but Owen’s raring to go. And surprisingly, I am too. We have left Dad to have a ‘sleep in’ (definition: any sleep, including broken, after 6am).
What a difference one full night’s sleep can make. Another few would be even better!

Maybe the Boy knows that I’m taking him to see Dr Jenny today – like when your dog usually knows when you’re taking them to the dreaded vet and won’t even get in the car for you. How do they sense that you are going to the vet and not just to the beach anyway?

I digress… back to sleeping!

Whatever it is, it’s worked and I hope he hasn’t just been teasing us for one peaceful night of sleep :)
