So, I decided to upgrade our gallery, then Meegs can upload the photos as well. The only catch is that anyone who was using the old site will need to re-register. The link to do this is on the right hand side of the screen. When you are logged in you will also get a random image from the gallery on the right hand side now.

To get started I have uploaded some images from October through to December. I’ll upload some more over the next week or two and then I’m sure we will keep it far more current than we had been.

Might be a good night to watch a DVD and just relax, assuming the boy will actually go to bed at a decent time.

Speaking of strange things, Wordpress keeps mucking up posts with pictures in them. If you’ve visited the site lately and seen it almost all blue, don’t blame it on the sunshine, don’t blame it on the good times, blame it on the wordpress!

I don’t know why, but it keeps adding in extra “< d i v >” tags causing all kinds of dramas. I have to keep editing the posts to clean up the code and fix spelling mistakes, why isn’t there a spell check as standard in Wordpress?

You would all know the dramas we had with our old modem, so we just had to buy a new one (with far more bells and whistles mind you).

So I opted for the Billion 7401VGP.

With the normal modem (ADSL2+ for future speed upgrades!), wireless access point, 4 port router and VOIP included it ticked all the boxes.

We signed up with Engin so the number you might have received in an email is actually a VOIP number. Why is this cool you ask? Because we don’t have to pay for a separate line to the one needed for work and all national calls only cost 10c! Calls to mobiles are pretty cheap as well, but long disctance untimed for 10c is brilliant!

The call quality seems to be as good as normal PSTN lines, but haven’t used it under load yet. The QOS part of the modem should keep it running smoothly but we’ll reserve jusdgement on that for the moment. Regardless it has to be better than the quality of Skype which can at times be very annoying.
So overall, this seems to be a great modem. The only thing I have to work out is how to stop the phone ringing when I get a fax. Once that’s figured out it should be smooth sailing!

Most of you would have read that we have had issues with our internet. The good old Netcomm modem that we had in Townsville came with us to Wynnum and logically should have worked. Not the case.

We ran every test that you can run to find the problem. Filters on, filters off, nothing else on line, other points, modem at another house etc. Finally convinced that there was nothing wrong with the modem we get Tel$tra in. He plugs in and gets a sync straight away.

AAARRRGGHH!

Swapped the modem from the Carter’s with ours and we all have internet again! So we’re going to have to buy a new modem for our house. Because we are going to get VOIP as well we’re going to get a modem, router, wireless access point and voip adapter all in one. Make cabling easier and much better value. Hopefully will have up and running within the week!

Long and short is we are back online, with a temporary fix until we buy a new modem.

At the moment only the gallery of Ben and Michelle’s wedding is online. Photos of Owen from May are uploading tonight and will be online tomorrow morning.

For those that are interested, the gallery software is Coppermine. The theme is modified to be close to the blog theme. With time the blog to gallery transition will be seamless. For the moment it’s close enough though!

But it’s finally done.  At one stage Blogger was not set to use valid code, so some of the old posts don’t close tages properly etc.  However, this is fixed and the site should now stay valid.

How does this affect you, I hear you asking?  Well it doesn’t really.  It’s just nice to be able to say it is valid and means that Gerrod doesn’t get up me for not fixing it up!!

Because of this I’ve had to turn on Comment Approvals. If you haven’t posted a comment before it may take a little while before it shows up as we will have to approve the comment the first time. Hopefully that will stop a lot of the problems.

Several people commented on the speed of loading the website at Ben and Michelle’s wedding. I’m working on a way to make things quicker if you are on dial up. Stay tuned for more…

I still have a few minor things to tidy up but would love some feedback on the new design. If you can have a look and let me know what you think I would really appreciate it.

There are a couple of themes that you can select from, Neptune is the one that most of the work has been put into, however this will follow through to the others as I get a chance.

The two main things that need to be done are the banners and finding a better place to host. Hopefully these will be done within the next week or two and we will then migrate over.
