I’m taking Cath’s challenge and answering her Mummy Survey :)
Here you go mummies – a different kind of survey for a change – it’s all
about your first born! Here’s my answers to an email survey going around, I’d love to read yours on your blogs or via email…
1. WAS YOUR FIRST PREGNANCY PLANNED?
yes
2. WERE YOU MARRIED AT THE TIME?
yes
3. WHAT WERE YOUR REACTIONS?
Whoa…! Then I couldn’t stop smiling!
4. WAS ABORTION AN OPTION FOR YOU?
Never
5. HOW OLD WERE YOU?
26
6. HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU WERE PREGNANT?
A really good friend of mine told me while I was driving us home from work that she was pretty sure I was pregnant, so we stopped in to get a test – and she was right! Thanks Kate :)
7. WHO DID YOU TELL FIRST?
Well, Kate, cause she was there, and saw the two lines appear with me :) Then I called Marc who was at volleyball at the time.
8. DID YOU WANT TO FIND OUT THE SEX?
No, we wanted a surprise. And he was a lovely surprise at that :) I wouldn’t find out next time either.
9. DUE DATE?
We thought he was about 7 days overdue I think (I can’t really remember!), so he was due at the very end of June/beginning of July.
10. DID YOU DELIVER EARLY OR LATE?
Late, but onle by a few days. Obviously needed more cooking than the doctors all thought :)
11. DID YOU HAVE MORNING SICKNESS?
YES. For nearly 6 months. It was horrible. I wouldn’t wish that upon my worst enemy!
12. WHAT DID YOU CRAVE?
Nothing out of the ordinary – I couldn’t actually eat much that stayed down anyway. Mutligrain Salada’s were always with me no matter where I went. Oh and KFC chicken nuggets were one of the few things that I could stomch for more than 5 minutes. Must have been the right about of grease and salt!
13. WHAT IRRITATED YOU THE MOST?
Apart fromt he morning sickness? Having to be near the bathroom all the time for nine months! And the heartburn cause I’ve never experienced that before.
14. WHAT IS YOUR FIRST CHILDS SEX?
Boy
15. DID YOU WISH YOU HAD THE OPPOSITE SEX OF WHAT YOU WERE GETTING?
Not at all!
16. HOW MANY KILOS DID YOU GAIN THROUGHOUT THE PREGNANCY?
only about 10 kilos I think… I didn’t really pay too much attention to weight gain.
17. DID YOU HAVE A BABY SHOWER?
Yes.
18. WAS IT A SURPRISE OR DID YOU KNOW?
I know – thanks to all the lovely Craft Ladies :)
19. DID YOU HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS DURING YOUR DELIVERY?
Yes, owen has his umbilical cord wrapped around his throat and he was traumatised with every contraction… I very nearly had to have an emergency c-section. Other than that – just a few dozen stitches at the end because my labour was so quick – only about 4 hours! I hope the next one is as fast…
20. WHERE DID YOU GIVE BIRTH?
Royal Women’s Hospital
21.HOW MANY HOURS WERE YOU IN LABOR?
about 4
22.WHO DROVE YOU TO THE HOSPITAL???
Marc… He wanted to go in about 3 hours before I was ready to!
23.WHO WATCHED??
Marc and our 2 midwives for the first bit. Then towards the end, more and more doctors and pediatric staff were coming in but you’d have to ask Marc about this bit as I really don’t remember who was there!
24.WAS IT NATURAL OR C-SECTION?
Natural – only just though!
25.DID YOU TAKE MEDICINE TO EASE THE PAIN?
Gas at the end, but I think I wasn’t even holding the mask close enough to my face, it was more something else to focus on through contractions.
26.HOW MUCH DID YOUR CHILD WEIGH?
A very healthy 8 pounds, one ounce. He wasn’t a small boy!
27.DID YOUR CHILD HAVE ANY COMPLICATIONS?
Yes, Owen needed to go straight to the nursery in a humidicrib for a bit after the birth, just to make sure he was all ok, but he was all good after that.
28. HOW LONG DID YOU STAY IN HOSPITAL FOR?
2 nights? All I wanted to do was get home!
29.WHAT DID YOU NAME HIM/HER?
Owen Douglas
30. HOW OLD IS YOUR FIRST BORN TODAY?
He’s 23 months and a real ‘boys boy’, and we wouldn’t want him any other way :)

6 months of morning sickness!!! Oh boy. Lucky he was more than worth it. :-)
